I saw at least seven gas stations today where the price of regular unleaded gas costs $2.05 per gallon. This is the highest I have ever seen in MN...the first time over two dollars. Now I haven't been driving forever, but I can boast in the fact that when I started driving about eight years ago, I remember being able to get gas at just under a dollar. We got so excited when we found 98 cents! God forbid, it should have been over a dollar! Now it's more than two! Can we go back to last summer when it hovered closer to $1.50? This price increase will greatly affect my wallet this summer as I will be driving approximately 400 miles every weekend between home and camp, and then add on any miles that I should take my car on hospital runs for camp, (although they just purchased a nice mini-van and I will probably actually be driving that!) and whatever other traveling I do. Not the most miles I have driven in my Kia (all last year I drove over 400 miles per week just for work, plus everything else and other traveling- often totaling 700 or more), but I'm not excited about the costs of driving my car this summer.
Here's the thing though.....why are we so concerned when the price of gas varies over just a few cents and not care so often over the difference of many dollars of so many other things in life? Think about it. How often do you not care how much you pay for something if it's something you want. $5, 20, 50, 100,....ah, not much different. But when it comes to cents per gallon, we care so much.....honestly...I get gas when I need it, I fill it, and I really don't pay that much attention...why? Well, it's not necessarily a monopoly, but gas is a necessity. I just buy it because I need it, so if I don't pay attention, I can't care that much. And the difference, even when I purchase 11 gallons, (the Kia has a small tank!) isn't that much.
Off to watch the Wolves!!!
